This year I am walking in the Candlelighters Fun Walk and I would love for you to support me! I am walking in honor of our son, Alex, an acute myeloid leukemia survivor, and all the families who face childhood cancer. I know that Candlelighters makes a difference in the lives of childhood cancer families each and every day.
Candlelighters Parent Consultants were vital to our family during Alex's 7 month treatment. The help with parking and more importantly, the emotional support, was invaluble to Chris and I. Candlelighters Parent Consultants understood where we were coming from and why we felt the way we did because they had been in our shoes, helping their children through their own cancer journeys. They laughed with us, cried with us, supported and encouraged us. They included Cody in everything we did because Candlelighters believes the whole family is affected by the horrible diagnosis of cancer and the whole family goes through treatment. The most memorable of the events we attend was Camp CLIFF, the annual family camp.
The Fun Walk raises money for Candlelighters annual family camp – a get-a-way for the whole family. Many camps in Houston offer the child with cancer a getaway, but Candlelighers believes that it is very important for the whole family to come together away from the treatment facilities and their everyday hectic lives. Quality time as a family is essential in their struggle to beat the disease. The cost to send a camper to camp is approximately $200 and this year they are planning on hosting 250 campers!
Thank you for supporting me and for helping all the children with cancer and their families that Candlelighters serves!
